Especially cloud services, which are becoming increasingly popular, consist of numerous system components that must be perfectly coordinated to provide users with exactly the functions they need. The greatest challenge here is to keep pace with the latest technical developments and still ensure the highest level of security. And this is precisely why the introduction of cloud technology has led to a rethinking of cyber security. The provider and the user are equally responsible for this security. The interaction of processes, regulations and many technical aspects must function optimally to guarantee the highest security standard. Incorrect configurations, weak spots in programming and the resulting cyber-attacks are just one example of possible risks concerning cloud security. To counteract these, the security concept must cover every single component. In particular, server- and network security play an elementary role, because they are the first line of defense against any external attacks. Furthermore, the assignment of authorized access rights for databases or firewalls, is of enormous importance. Since information security must be ensured, storing sensitive data in the cloud usually requires data protection guidelines or encryption. Complex cloud applications should therefore also be regularly checked for possible vulnerabilities in the individual applications. Finally, data centers are a significant element of the IT infrastructure and must provide security of the hardware. Here too, access rights need to be officially regulated and monitored.
